Take Back Medicine Program is Successful in First Year
Posted Date: 8/23/2017

med returnLast year, the City of Coral Gables became the first municipality in Miami-Dade County to partner with Covanta Dade Renewable Energy to take back unused prescription drugs to avoid misuse at home and dispose of them in an environmentally safe manner.

After a year of collecting them at a drop-off bin installed at the lobby of the Public Safety Building, the City disposed of a total of 139.7 pounds of prescription drugs that historically would have gone either to landfills or flushed down the toilet.

Expired or unwanted prescription drugs can still be dropped off 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the lobby of 2801 Salzedo Street.
